CONTROL Resonant Completion Planning — Guide
Want to see more than the main ending? Separate campaign progress from World Quests, Jesse Quests, World Feats, optional Resonants, platform achievements and New Game Plus, then use post-ending exploration for the routes that remain.

What this guide helps you accomplish
A complete run is more than finishing Dylan's Journey. PlayStation has 50 trophies including the Platinum, while Xbox and PC use 49 achievements. Most cleanup remains available after the ending, but one side-quest outcome can be route-sensitive, so keep the automatic mission saves until every optional result is settled.

Define completion by platform and activity type
Completion can mean finishing the campaign, clearing every optional story, earning every platform trophy or achievement, completing World Feats, or seeing New Game Plus choices. Choose the target first because each one needs a different route and evidence.
PlayStation has 50 trophies because its list includes a Platinum; Xbox and PC track the same 49 gameplay achievements without it. Manhattan remains explorable after the ending, so most cleanup can wait, but keep the automatic mission saves until route-sensitive optional outcomes are resolved.
| Category | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | Dylan's Journey objective and completion state | Separates the ending from optional cleanup |
| Optional missions | World Quests, Jesse Quests and prerequisites | Movement rewards can reopen blocked routes |
| World Feats and Zones | Activity, Zone, requirement and reward | Avoids mixing repeated challenges with unique missions |
| Resonants | Encounter, version and ability choice | Some choices broaden on a later run |
| Trophies / achievements | 50 PlayStation trophies or 49 Xbox / PC achievements | The Platinum changes the count, not the gameplay route |
02 / Field log
Track World Quests, Faults and Zone activities
World Quests are optional narrative threads; Faults are distinct activity spaces. Manhattan also contains encounters, puzzles, Gravity Anomalies and discoveries. The first practical task is classification: record where you found an activity, what condition stopped you and whether it appears story-gated or traversal-gated.
We would not mark an area as permanently missed just because it was unreachable the first time. Reach, Shift and other movement changes can turn an old obstacle into a new route. In a completion log, we recommend 'seen', 'blocked', 'ready to revisit' and 'cleared' instead of one simple checkbox.
Near-instant Zone travel and the Gap are confirmed, but Remedy has not published first-run access rules for every side activity. NG+ explicitly resets story-linked traversal abilities. A blocked first-run path is therefore a reason to check your current movement and objective, not proof that the path is permanently missable—or guaranteed to remain open.

| Situation | What is established | Next decision |
|---|---|---|
| An optional route is out of reach | Traversal powers change accessible space; Reach comes from the Subway Fault route | Keep following the current objective and recheck after a movement unlock |
| You want to return to an earlier Zone | Remedy describes near-instant travel between Zones | Use the in-game travel options; consult the verified route database for known gates |
| You are starting NG+ | Combat progression carries over, story-linked traversal does not | Expect to reopen movement routes through story progress |
| You fear a permanently missable pickup | Most cleanup remains available after the ending, but one optional quest outcome is route-sensitive | Keep the automatic mission saves until that outcome and its achievement are settled |
03 / Encounters
Treat Resonant choices as route decisions
Each regional Resonant closes a mission branch and adds a defined Combat Ability choice. Record the reward selected from the Artist, Deserter, Dancer, Collective, Physicist and Co-Director so the first-run build and the remaining New Game Plus options stay clear.
Completed-review coverage reports that defeating Resonants can advance the world's escalation and strengthen later enemies. We would check whether Aberrant upgrades, health, Power and Talents are keeping pace before clearing every optional fight; exact escalation values still need direct testing on a known game version.
Use the boss directory for the encounter name, Zone, prerequisite, route, ability reward and applicable patch. The Resonant Cycle also changes the pressure of later encounters, so the order of optional regional fights is part of route planning rather than a cosmetic checklist.

04 / Inventory
Separate equipped Artifacts from discoveries
An Untapped Artifact is a crafting input, not automatically an equipped passive item. The Gap is the place Remedy has shown for turning discoveries into build changes. Three Artifacts can be equipped in the first run; a fourth slot opens in New Game Plus.
If you are collecting for build options, record the item name, how it was obtained and what effect it produced in your own version. Do not infer a universal drop location or roll rate from a promotional screenshot, a pre-order bonus or a single media demo.
05 / Second pass
Plan New Game Plus without assuming full access
Combat progression carries over while traversal tied to the story must be earned again. Additional Talent options and a fourth Artifact slot expand the second-run build. Some encounter and choice outcomes can differ, so NG+ may be necessary for a personal 'see both options' goal.
A second run is not just a clean-up sweep across an already open map. Before starting, record unfinished World Quests, the ability choice you made and the build you want to test. Hotfix 1.4.2 restores the missing Every Dog Has Her Day Artifact retroactively only if that save has not entered NG+, so collect that reward before crossing into a new cycle.
Update 1.4.0 shipped repeatable New Game++ with unlimited successive runs and increased save slots from five to seven. Keep the game version beside any route that depends on repeated cycles, because traversal gates still have to be reopened through the story.
06 / Your own record
Count the 67 trophy-related locations by category
The released completion route contains 67 locations tied directly to trophies and achievements. That total is narrower than every Archive document or incidental pickup: it combines seven Taskboards, eleven Sketchbooks, eight dogs, six Secret Hideouts, six Testing Facilities, seven taxis, fourteen Freeze Frame cameras and eight Pope's Research balloons.
Finish the story first if efficient cleanup is the goal, because the traversal set opens the return routes. The seven Taskboards expose forty-two FBC Tasks, but the platform objective requires any twenty rather than all forty-two.
| Completion category | Required count | What completion means |
|---|---|---|
| FBC Taskboards | 7 boards | Unlock the boards; complete any 20 of 42 FBC Tasks |
| Dylan's Sketchbooks | 11 | Collect all eleven sketchbooks |
| Dogs | 8 | Complete Every Dog Has Her Day |
| Secret Hideouts | 6 | Solve all six hidden-room puzzles |
| Testing Facilities | 6 | Complete the facility half of Threshold Researcher |
| Taxis | 7 | Complete the taxi half of Threshold Researcher |
| Freeze Frame cameras | 14 | Complete the camera chain without approaching from view |
| Pope's Research balloons | 8 | Collect and place the antenna sets in The Unknown |
07 / Route verification
What a verified 100% route must prove
Every completion entry needs a reproducible route: game version, prerequisite, area, exact interaction, reward and whether an earlier choice can prevent it. Counts should come from a finished run or a verified in-game counter, not from guesses based on leaked achievements or review footage.
A partial list is not labelled 'all collectibles', and a game-wide total is not calculated from personal goals. The next useful addition is always a checked activity record with a route and prerequisite, not another unsupported counter.
