The Deserter: what to diagnose in an attempt

Version 1.3.3 reduced the boss's health and required Falter. Version 1.4.0 then fixed approach, music and out-of-bounds problems; the fire-filled floor still makes route discipline more important than a long combo.

What makes the encounter distinct

The route ends beneath the Patterned Factory after Central's heat sources and furnace access are resolved. The ground hazard matters because staying aggressive for Power must be balanced against keeping a safe exit through the arena.

Close distance past the opening lava attack, dodge the body slam and punish its recovery. Move off burning grates before restarting pressure rather than extending a combo through the hazard.

Update 1.4.0 fixed music after the encounter, an out-of-bounds problem on the approach and a backtracking problem on the return route. Those fixes change route reliability, not the Ignite or Inferno reward choice.

Progression and strategy

The Deserter rewards a choice between Ignite and Inferno plus the Untapped Lighter. Compare the two fire-focused roles against the gap in your current build before confirming the branch.

The encounter advances the Resonant Cycle, so the decision affects more than a single reward screen. Keep the route, ability choice and game version together in any build comparison.

Separate the named fight from the boss class

The Deserter closes Central's Patterned Factory route with lava spit, body slams and fire across the floor. Its reward choice is Ignite or Inferno plus the Untapped Lighter.

The mission name remains The Central Resonant, while the boss is The Deserter. Keeping those labels separate makes the objective log, route and encounter directory agree.

05 / Field notes

Read the arena before choosing a build

The Deserter defines Central's fight through lava spit, body slams and fire across the floor. The first build question is simple: can it keep pressure up while preserving a route out of unsafe ground? Version 1.3.3 reduced its health and required Falter, while 1.4.0 fixed approach and return-route problems.

An early hands-on also describes a Combat Ability choice after a Resonant. We are not assuming every boss gives the same reward, or that the unnamed first entity is the Central Resonant, so we keep those two encounters separate.

The Deserter: what players need to know

Open the Patterned Factory route, preserve an exit across the burning floor and choose Ignite or Inferno for the problem your current build cannot solve.
